Oof. Reader fatigue.
That’s what I’ve been dealing with after reading the whole ACOTAR series in the span of 15 days in September.
Now, I did read two books in October, Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson and Roomies by Christina Lauren. Significantly less than previous months, but better than nothing.
So, let’s get to it.
Roomies

First up was Roomies, which I immediately considered quitting. But, as you know, I’m not a book quitter, and I persevered. Would I recommend this book to anyone? No, not at all. The basis of the story focused on a marriage of convenience so a musician with an expired visa could work on Broadway. It was terribly written (which is a lot for me to say because I typically really enjoy Christina Lauren’s books) and, on the more personal end, made a mockery of what it’s really like to go through the immigration process. I’ll keep the rest of my thoughts to myself but if you’re on the hunt, don’t pick this one up.
Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone

Everyone In My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson was one I came across on Instagram. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into, but the title was enough to intrigue me. Overall, it was okay, but the author broke the fourth wall so much it got to the point where I skimmed my way through portions just to keep the story going (and so I could reach the end of it). If you like the fourth wall being broken, then this book is for you!
There was, however, one line from the book that has stuck with me: “Family is gravity.”
The book was based off this line and how the main character made a lot of his decisions based on how his family is his gravity.
I come from a really big family. Loud, wild, Hispanic, overly generous and all over each other’s business. And I’m proud of it! Without my family and their support I wouldn’t be where I am today. We’re an immigrant family too and my parents have worked so hard to give their children a life full of possibilities so that one day we can give our own children a life filled with all they could ever want and more.
So thank you, Benjamin Stevenson, for the reminder that family is gravity. Let’s just say I’m grateful that mine is nothing like the one in his book (and thank God for that).
Up next on my list?

- Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese
- The Bullet That Missed by Richard Osman (#3 in the Thursday Murder Club Series)
- And possibly, just *possibly,* starting another series by Sarah J. Mass, Throne of Glass.
Have any reccs? Let me know!
And in case you missed it, be sure you check out my favorite reading accessories: my page turner and my stand, that have allowed me to take reading to a whole other level. You need these two things, trust me! Or with Christmas right around the corner, maybe you know someone who may love to have these items in their stocking. So make the purchase for them!
See you next week, friends!
