Does anyone else feel like taking a complete hiatus from social media after this week?
I knew that no matter what happened on Election Day, social media was going to burst with personal opinions—of which everyone is entitled to. What I disliked seeing was how much personal hope was lost and/or gained because of the individual at the helm.
Anger, despair, hopelessness. Joy, hope, faith restored.
That’s what social media has looked like since Tuesday, with calls for people to unfollow each other if they voted for certain candidates or name-calling and stereotyping a whole portion of the population for thinking differently than them.
But isn’t that the beauty of America? That we can think differently and yet coexist? That we live in a democracy where we have the choice to vote for a leader and have a peaceful transition of power?
But no. Hope nowadays is being placed on individuals who have and will fail us. I shared about this earlier in the presidential race: Donald Trump isn’t going to save you and neither is Kamala Harris.
Whether or not Kamala was at the helm, she was not going to be your saving grace.
And with Trump now at the helm for a second term, he too, is not your saving grace.
Only God is.
I know that’s the only reason I had peace going into Tuesday, no matter what happened.
I cast my vote, I made my voice heard, and I trusted that God was and is in control. And because of that, my yesterday, today, and tomorrow are set in stone. My hope lies in Him, not in whoever is at the helm. He is my saving grace, not any politician.
Where does your hope lie?
My guess is that if your initial response was fear and hopelessness then your hope lies in a human. Can I encourage you to reconsider and turn to Christ?
He alone can give you peace when things feel uncertain or hopeless. He alone can and should be your hope.
Can I also remind you that the Bible reminds us to pray for those in leadership (1 Timothy 2:1-2)?
So whether or not you’re a fan of our President-elect, pray for him! Pray that he would surround himself with individuals who will help him keep his focus on supporting all Americans.
And don’t just pray for him, pray for our incoming vice president and for all those who won re-election or will be starting fresh at the state and federal levels of government.
Finally, pray for our outgoing leadership, including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The last four years have been tumultuous, yes, but President Biden is deserving of our prayers too.
I’ll leave you with a resource from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, https://peacewithgod.net/. If you feel hopeless after this week’s results, turn to God. If your hope is based in a human at the helm, turn to God. He alone can fulfill our every need and desire.
See you next week, friends.
